Sometimes, events are just so super-humiliating that the only way forward is to laugh at yourself.
That's clearly the case for Jimmy Kimmel and Warren Beatty, who relive last year's Oscar's debacle over "Moonlight" and "LaLaLand" in a promo by ABC for the awards on Mar. 4.
In it, Kimmel is haunted by nightmares about the event; he sees Oscar statuettes everywhere, gets flashbacks when baristas get his name wrong on the paper cup and can't even open his mail because of all the envelopes. Talking to his (at first unseen) therapist, he explains how he tried to get over it by setting fire to his tuxedo on the BBQ, then reveals that "the worst part is...they want me to do it again." The therapist is finally revealed to be none other than Beatty--the presenter who read out the wrong winner and was responsible for "LaLaLand" being mistakenly named Best Picture. "I don't care what you do--just get out of my house," he says to Kimmel.
Clearly it may have been somewhat awkward for ABC to trail the show without reference to the 2017 disaster: but kudos to Kimmel and particularly Beatty for confronting the nightmare head-on.
