Adidas Kicks Off the Next Soccer Season With an Artsy and Playful Star-Studded Film

Ad Gives Nods to Speculation About Players Including Paul Pogba

Adidas Football is introducing the new soccer season in Europe with a colorful mixed-media and star-studded film featuring players from across the brand's six largest clubs -- Real Madrid, FC Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Chelsea, Juventus and AC Milan -- as they defy media gossip and get on with the game.

They include Paul Pogba, Manuel Neuer, Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez, Diego Costa and Miralem Pjanic, as well as managers such as Zinedine Zidane and new Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.

In typically punchy Adidas style, and using its "First Never Follows" tagline, it centers around the words "Blah, blah, blah" which float around the screen in bright animation as players and managers appear to ignore the talk about them and focus on the action. However, it's a playful approach to the constant transfer rumors concerning many of these players, and soccer fans will instantly recognize the references -- for instance the film opens with Pogba teling viewers: "Don't believe everything you read in the papers" (Pogba has been the subject of speculation over whether he is joining Manchester United).

Featuring an array of visual styles, including fun anime- and videogame-inspired interludes, the film is set to a punchy rap track titled "Sort It Out Sharon," produced by Dusky feat. Wiley. It also features members of S3 Freestyle, part of the Adidas Football freestyle roster, showcasing the rise of the football freestyler in the modern day.

The ad was created by 72andSunny Amsterdam and directed by Somesuch's Rollo Jackson. It was teased on social media late last week with short films relating to each of the clubs, before going live at the weekend.
