Budweiser's Super Bowl spot reprises last year's winning combination of Clydesdales, a cute puppy and an equally cute horse trainer, together with director Jake Scott. This time the mood is different -- it's set to a slow, rather mournful version of "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by the Proclaimers, covered by Sleeping At Last, and this time puts the mischievous puppy in peril when he goes for a wander and ends up getting lost. Luckily, he has friends to save the day.
It's the third year running that the Clydesdales (and their trainer, played by actor Don Jeanes) have featured in a Budweiser Super Bowl campaign. According to the brand, seven Clydesdales underwent training for three months to fine-tune their skills for the new ad, and eight puppies-- seven females and one male-- are featured.
The ad, by Anomaly, was unveiled on the "Today" show. With plenty of the "aw" factor, it's likely to have a better reception than that of GoDaddy, whose ad, also featuring a lost Labrador puppy (called Buddy in a deliberate attempt to poke fun at Budweiser), was withdrawn from the Super Bowl and from YouTube after complaints from animal lovers.
