Two Sisters Remember the Good Times in House of Fraser's Holiday Ad

Seasonal Nostalgia From U.K. Department Store and 18 Feet and Rising

This year's Christmas spot from U.K. department store House of Fraser is a nostalgic look at two sisters enjoying the holiday with each other throughout the years.

Set to the track "Who Took the Merry Out of Christmas" by the The Staple Singers, the film flits between images of the pair as little girls, playing together, squabbling and putting the mince pies out for Santa, as teenagers and as grown women, still having fun and enjoying each other's company (there's also one shot where one is weeping in the other's arms--suggesting they've stuck together through good times and tough ones). The spot was created by 18 Feet & Rising and directed by Vaughan Arnell and Anthea Benton, a duo known for their work in TV advertising and music videos, who reunited after 20 years to shoot the ad.

Paddy Earnshaw, chief marketing officer at House of Fraser, says that the ad is aimed to "rekindle that childhood nostalgia."

"As adults we can sometimes lose sight of the magic of Christmas as we have to do grown up stuff like manage plans and 'to do' lists. There is no such thing as a picture-perfect Christmas where everything goes to plan; that's half the charm and the fun. This year, we'd love our customers to think back to Christmas growing up and recapture some of that excitement with the House of Fraser ad."
