Aussie bank Westpac tells the tale of a man with a heart as big as his mustache

'Proudly Supporting' campaign continues with a moving story about selflessness

Australian bank Westpac's "Proudly Supporting" campaign is a celebration of the better natures of the country's inhabitants. In April, DDB Syndey created a cinematic restrospective of important moments when people came together to support each other.

Now the agency moves the focus to a single town, with the touching story of Frank, an immigrant who can't help but help others. In the mid-20th Century, as a newcomer to Australia and sporting an impressive handlebar mustache, he helps a young woman as she stumbles on the sidewalk. As is inevitable in these kinds of tales, they fall in love and get married, though he arrives to the chapel dishevelled after helping a stranger catch a wayward horse.

The couple has a child, and the young wife notices how her husband always puts others first, even in the most competitive of sports. He becomes a music teacher and cultivates the talents of children, rescues townsfolk during dust storms and spends time with his grandchildren.

After a long, happy life, his funeral is filled with the friends he's made, who give his grieving widow a moving tribute to show their love for Frank--and his facial hair.

The tale, directed by Christopher Riggert via Finch, is set to Australian folk-pop classic "I'll Never Find Another You" by The Seekers, covered by Sydney-based singer Julia Jacklin. It is running on TV and in cinemas and is supported by out-of-home, radio, social and digital placements.
