Microsoft Xbox and Twofifteen McCann have kicked off the countdown to the release of "Halo 5: Guardians" with this cryptic, 15-second teaser, showing a bullet ominously shattering the mask of the franchise's iconic hero Master Chief.

The film appeared during last night's broadcast of "The Walking Dead," as well as on a new site, There, fans can examine it frame-by-frame to get clues about the fate of Master Chief in the fifth installment of the popular series, set to go on sale this fall, exclusively for Xbox One.

The site also features an episodic "Serial"-style audio series, "Hunt the Truth," starring "Key and Peel" actor/comedian Keegan-Michael Key. Mr. Key plays Benjamin Giraud, a war journalist who was hired to do an in-depth profile of Master Chief -- which over the course of twelve weeks in the run up to E3, will potentially unearth unsettling secrets about Master Chief's real identity-- "the boy, the soldier, the hero, the traitor?. . . The truth isn't always that clean. When I pulled that first loose thread, something broke. Now everything is caving in and I find myself stuck with all these ugly questions," Giraud says in the first installment.

During the season finale of the AMC show on March 29, Xbox will debut the official live-action trailer of the game
